Senior Full Stack Engineer

  • Alcobendas, Madrid, Community of Madrid, Spain

About the Company

Our client is an established cross-border payments platform, helping SMEs and consumers across the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand collect, convert, hold, and send money across markets. They serve a large, established user base for both currency information and international money transfer.

They’re currently rebuilding the platform layer behind cross-border payments for corporate and consumer clients. The team is small enough that code ships fast and individual decisions matter, while being backed by a listed global payments group – so the problems they’re solving are real-scale, not toy problems.

About This Role

They’re hiring a senior full-stack engineer who owns real problems end-to-end and shapes how the team builds, from API design and frontend experience through to backend services, production reliability, and launch. You already use AI as part of how you think, build, test, and ship.

You’ll write code that moves money in production, design and modernise the platform across the stack, and lead delivery of customer-facing features as the company rebuilds its platform layer. You’ll work in a small engineering team with direct access to product, design, and compliance, own architecture in your domain, lead design reviews, mentor mid-level engineers, and partner with architects and team leads on cross-domain decisions.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and own features across the stack that move money and manage multi-currency balances across a range of domains, including onboarding, KYC and KYB, payment initiation, FX, settlement, and other supporting services.

  • Lead delivery of customer-facing features that customers use every day, from the interface through to the services behind them.

  • Own production health for your domain, including reliability, observability, on-call, and incident response.

  • Lead cross-functional delivery with product, design, and compliance from problem framing through launch.

  • Lead design reviews, set technical direction for your domain, and mentor mid-level engineers.

  • Use agentic coding tools (Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or equivalent) daily across the SDLC, and lead modernisation from legacy services into the modern stack alongside architects and team leads in your domain.

What They’re Looking For

Must-have

  • 6 to 10+ years building production web applications, end-to-end.

  • Strong frontend proficiency with Vue.js, React, or equivalent.

  • Strong backend proficiency in C# / .NET preferred; other OOP languages welcome (Java, Kotlin, Go, or equivalent).

  • Solid SQL and relational database fundamentals.

  • Writing and maintaining tests as part of how you ship.

  • Daily use of agentic coding tools (Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or equivalent) across the SDLC.

  • Production experience on AWS, including hands-on deployment, CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment practices, and native services such as SQS, DynamoDB, S3, ECS, and Lambda.

  • Strong system design and architecture experience, including service-oriented or microservices and event-driven patterns.

  • Payments, FX, or regulated-industry experience.

  • Track record of technical leadership: mentoring engineers, leading design reviews, and making architecture decisions in your domain.

  • Strong communication and collaboration across engineering, product, and design.

Nice-to-have

  • Frontend fundamentals: responsive design, accessibility, web performance, and internationalisation.

  • Experience leading front-end or platform modernisation and migrations.

  • Experience with caching solutions like Memcached or Redis.

  • Experience using project management and documentation tools like Jira and Confluence.

  • Knowledge of API testing tools such as Postman or Bruno.

  • Writing automated tests alongside development with AI tools (Claude Code or equivalent).

Perks & Benefits

  • Performance-based annual bonus

  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP), open to all employees

  • Monthly car allowance (subject to level)

  • Meal vouchers

  • Preferential currency exchange rates and money transfer discounts

  • Annual, performance-based salary review

  • Hybrid working model: 2 days/week WFH with flexible scheduling

  • Extended vacation allowance (25–30 days)

  • Extra bank holidays plus a fully paid birthday off

  • Annual employee recognition and social events

  • Volunteer days and CSR initiatives

  • Employee wellness weeks

  • Leadership training and cross-functional project opportunities
