Senior / Staff Founding Engineer

Vision: The current infrastructure for moving money around the world was not designed to be global. That has created enormous, costly friction in our financial system. The impact of that friction is added cost and time that trickles all the way through the value chain of financial services. And frankly, it’s typically the individuals and businesses in emerging markets that bear the brunt of this friction – sometimes, with the ultimate outcome of exclusion.

WalaPay want to change that. They are rebuilding global financial infrastructure on stablecoin rails because it’s the only way to build truly global financial services, starting with payments.

What are they building: Walapay is building stablecoin-native infrastructure to move and manage money globally, focusing especially on connecting emerging markets. Today, the Walapay product stack consists of banking, payments, and treasury – all accessible through one API. They’re enabling PSPs and fintechs to build out fintech use cases with these key building blocks, and have them be global from day one.

Role: You will be the primary owner of the business-facing product, which includes both the front and backend development. This will require:

• Integrating bank providers for new rails
• Developing ledger systems to track money movement
• Work directly with blockchain related tech (wallets, nodes, etc.) for stablecoin related flows
• Continue enhancing the frontend for business facing requirements (accounting integrations, easy customer/account/payment management, etc.)
• Scale their infrastructure to handle thousands of transactions per day and $1Bs in value per month

Requirements:

• Excellent communication skills
• 6–10 years’ experience in full stack engineering with a focus on backend development
• You believe in our vision and share our excitement for the transformational potential of stablecoin payments
• Experience with tech stack: Node.js with NestJS for backend and TypeScript with NextJs on frontend
• Blockchain knowledge (understanding of how blockchains, wallets, nodes, transfers, etc. work)
• Located in the SF to Dubai timezone range, with preference for CST-CET range
• Looking for very high-agency individuals comfortable with a high degree of autonomy and ownership

Preferred:

• Prior experience in traditional payments companies (specifically worked on ledgering systems, direct bank integrations, payment compliance operationalization, etc.)
• Blockchain experience (you have written smart contracts and/or worked with blockchain payments at scale)
• Located in NYC / London or on eastern time
